Pippa...

photo of pippa

Pippa is a Beagle cross Parsons Terrier and was our second doggy addition. She quickly settled into life here with us and Rex and it soon felt like she'd always been here. She is is the dog I have to thank for getting me into dogs. If it wasn't for her endless energy then I wouldn't have taken such a keen interest in dog training, agility and obedience.

She has a lot of energy and loves nothing more than a good off lead run (and sniff!). Shes a typical terrier in that she has to run everywhere and is always on the go. In 2006 she even made it to the top of Ben Nevis. We were exhausted but as always she was up bright and early the next day, probably wondering what mountain we were going to climb next.

She loves to please and got me into both competative agility and competative obedience - not something you'd ever expect from a beagle terrier cross. She is, at times, also known as 'The Beagle Terror' or 'The Bealge Terrorist' as occasionally her beagle nose and her terrier ways can get the better of her.

Shes certainaly a dog that you need a sense of humour with; shes known to do the unexpected and always makes people laugh.

Agility

Registered Name: Ruffs Kyria Kalli AW(G) Beg EX
KC: Medium Grade 6 ( 3 G6 agility wins)
UKA: Midi (Measured Toy) Senior
BAA: Mini Graduate (measured Micro)

Pippa started agility classes when she was just under a year old. A local training club held fun agility 'puppy classes' with only 6 inch jumps. As soon as I started I was hooked!

Pip started competing a couple months shy of her second birthday in January 2006. She soon went from strength to strength and it wasnt long before she won out of elementary by getting placed 2nd in a Starters class. We then changed clubs and started training with Wendy Clay at Racingredd Agility where we have remained ever since.

It felt like we were stuck in G2 forever, but after numerous 2nd places and obtraining her AW(B) we finally won out og G2 by winning a C1-3 agility class in Nottingham in May 08. From then on she went from strength to strength obtraining her AW(s) in July 08 and winning out of G3 at Lincon in Sept 08. In 2009 she quickly won out of G4, and then won out of G5 at her first G5 show. She went on to get 2 G6 agility wins in that same year, and another G6 Agility win at Easter 2010.

I'm looking forward to 2010 and hoping we can get that final win to make G7.

Obedience & Clicker training

Obedience Class: Novice (& A) - 1 Novice Win

Pippa has always been a quick learner but it wasn't until I started attending clicker training classes in September 2005 that I discovered Pippa could actually be rather good at obedience. She had attended obedience classes previously but never seemed *that* interested. A few months later, and after lots of foot targetting, I started becoming interested in perhaps aiming for competative obedience - something I hadn't ever considered previously.

Pippa had her first Obdience class (at a companion show) on 23rd April 2006 and came 3rd. In Auguest 2007 qualified for the Special Pre-Beginner Stakes Semi Finals by being the highest placed ABC at Cambridge Obedience Show where she came 2nd. She went on to win out of prebeginners at her next obedience show, and sealed the deal by winning another a couple weeks later. In Sept 2008 Pip won out of Beginners by winning Beginners (her first) and Novice at the same show. The next day she won another Beginners - not a bad weekend! We took a break from obedience in 2009 but will hopefully be back in the ring in 2010.

Shes passed the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold level. She was also at Crufts in 2007 taking part in a Good Citizens Demo.

Tricks

Pippa knows a variety of tricks from playing dead to playing basket ball and skatboarding. We were lucky enough to be a standby for Animal Planets Top Dog in 2007 so had lots fun going over her trick routine. See below for a couple videos:
