Inca is a blue and white border collie bitch and was born on 4th July 2006 (Independance Day). Her mum is a stunning Oz red BC named Lori - Nice of You to Come Bye Fields of Gold at Locheil (imp) - and her dad is a handsome blue and white BC named Bond - Locheil Time Moves On. As you can see shes certainly got her dads good looks!

She passed the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze and Silver awards before she was 8 months old, and has since passed her Gold award as well.

Inca is always great fun to have around. She can be a bit dipsy and certainly has her fair share of blonde moments (like me, lol). She has an immature expression which always makes everyone laugh. Shes a pretend BC really as she could quite happily sit at home on the sofa all day, the only thing that would make it better would be to have someone there to fuss her and occasionally throw her ball around. She loves shows, especially Crufts, as she thinks everyone is there to see her and her only. Sadly we dont quite share the same passion for breed!

Agility

inca doing agility KC: Large Grade 3
BAA: Medium Primary Jumping / Novice Agility
UKA: Standard Novice Performance/Senior Steeplechase

Inca started attending weekly pre-agility classes at RacingRedd with Wendy Clay when she was just 4 months old. These half hour classes focused on attention, recalls inbetween wings (poles on the floor), recalls, contacts, turns and weaves. As she got older these classes progressed and she split a private lesson with Pip and Diesel.

She had her first show at Dog Vegas in December 2007, at 17 months old. This show held a Grade 0 class for dogs ages between 15 and 18 months, jumping at medium height. Since then shes been doing well. In her first year of compeition she got promoted to Primary at BAA, won out of Beginners Steeplechase (in 2 weekends!!) at UKA, and has been getting regular places at KC Open shows.

In 2009 she continued doing well winning into senior at UKA, qualifying for the DIN Genisis G3 Final and getting promoted to Novice in Jumping at BAA.

Sadly at the end of 2009 she started showing intermittent lameness. Nothing major, just a slight occasional shoulder drop on the trot. We pushed for X-rays and at the start of 2010 she was diagnosed with RSI in her right carpal joint (wrist). We're not sure what this means for her agility career but shes taking a break for the moment.

Showing

inca at crufts 2008Before Inca, I'd' never shown in breed before so its been a learning curve for the both of us. The original plan was that I would give showing a go until she was old enough to compete in agility, but as always with dogs, our plans soon changed..

At her first show she was placed in both her classes, coming 2nd in puppy and 3rd in A.V minor puppy bitch. We attended a few more open shows before entering our first champ show. She qualified for Crufts 2008 at the Scottish Border Collie Club Champ show by coming 3rd in both her Junior and Yearling classes.

On the 3rd Feb 2008 we attended the Midlands BCC Champ show. Inca came 2nd in Yearling, qualifying her for Crufts 2009, and went on to WIN novice bitch. 2008 has certainly been a good year as shes won classes in both Yearling and Graduate classes, and she even got a RBOB (Reserve Best Of Breed) at an Open show.

We had an excellent start to 2009. On 1st Feb 09 at Midlands BCC Champ show Inca WON her Graduate class and came 3rd in Post Grad (out of 19 entries!!) qualifying for Crufts 2010. We only lightly showed her in 2009, gaining a few Working Bitch wins and a VHC in Limit.

We'll only show lightly again in 2010 but we look forward to seeing how she does.

Sheepdog Training

inca on sheepAfter attending a K9 Sports sheepdog training day with Gordon Watt in Feb 08, I decided I would like to try and train the collies to work sheep.

Later in the year I started attending regular sheepdog training sessions where Inca learnt how to work the sheep, and I enjoyed learning something new with her. Even Diesel got to have a little go at the end of her sessions, and as he got older these sessions got longer.

Sadly we've stopped sheepdog training for now, but we had fun learning something new.
