Paddy - Rehomed

Pumpkin at Brancaster BeachPaddy came to us in October 2011 from Wagtails Rescue in Essex. I was told he was having issues coping with his deafness but in truth he’d just been in homes where people didn’t understand how to communicate with him.

Paddy was just a typical young energetic playful collie that had been rather misunderstood. He loves his cuddles and loves to play. He settled in well with our current pack of 5 dogs and 3 cats. He took to CaniX like a duck to water and ran with the others on the scooter too.  Inca was smitten with him, Pippa adored games of chase and Blaze enjoyed games of tuggy or playing rough. I started clicker training him using a keyring light, and we went on endless walks at Shouldham, at the beach or in the fields.

We got him neutered and chipped thanks to Garrity DTC raising the funds. And in Jan 2012 we found him a lovely home down in Swindon with another collie called Rocky where he will continue to enjoy long walks and canicross.

Pumpkin - RIP

Pumpkin at Brancaster Beach

Pumpkin came on foster from The Mayhew Animal Home in London. She arrived at The Mayhew in August 2009 after being found wandering around on the streets of London. She arrived with us here 21 months of age, and was due to turn 2 in September 2010.

We found Pumpkin to be just a big payful bouncy puppy. She was goofy and silly, and also had a sensitive side. She was anxious at being left and we were working on this. Once she had settled in she slept downstairs with Rex and we were building up the time she could be left. Shes was house trained, traveled well in the van/car, walked well on and off lead & was good with other dogs (although still occasionally woofs at some dogs/people if shes unsure of them). She attended weekly agility lessons and started hydrotherapy.

Sadly none of us were prepared for the incident that happened so the hard decision was made to return her to The Mayhew. Due to this incident, and taking into account unpredictable behaviours that had happened in the past they made the decision to end her suffering and so she was PTS.

Farewell my precious Pumpkin x

Ted - Rehomed

photo of ted I recieved a message from Nic at the start of January '10 asking if I would consider fostering a dog in need. This poor little chap had been in kennels for almost 2 months and was seeking a foster home without kids. A few days later we made our way down to Essex to collect him, our first foster.

Ted is a working cocker x JRT who turned 2 in Dec '09. Hes SUCH a character and settled in so quickly and effortlessly with our gang here. He loves his cuddles and loves to snuggle on your lap infront of the TV. I've always been amazed at how quickly he falls alseep. Out on walks hes always on the go and enjoys a game of tuggy/chase with Diesel. His most amusing quirk was howling at the ice cream van!

Ted is tuned into the clicker and such a bight lad. He attended agility classes, TD Rally classes and hydrotherapy sessions whilst here with us. I also taught him various tricks with the clicker such as the elephant trick, spins (left & right), reverse, targetting, bowing. He also learnt how to free time which was a good way to keep him amused.

You can read more about Teds adventures whilst he was here with us on the blog.

Ted went off to his new home in June 2010 with Norman and Anne in Northamptonshire where he will get to enjoy agility and obedience. Hopefully we'll get to see him on the agility circuit in the near future.

An update from Anne:

"We took Ted and Lottie for a little walk before we brought them to the house,  and they seem to be getting on really well together I have never seen Lottie so playful. Ted has made himself at home and was very good through the night. He is such a lovely dog he has well and truely won us over all ready"

And another:

"We didn't get the names we asked for which were Ready Steady Teddy and Ready Teddy Go, they gave us Get Ready Teddy which we tought was o.k.  I will send some pics later but we are not such good photographers as you, I love the ones you sent me I look at them all the time.  We are off to the east coast next week for a holiday so will try and get some nice ones of them.  Hope Pippa is still doing well she must be so brave."

We were lucky enough to see Ted make his BAA debut at the EMDAC finals weekend. He had such fun in the ring and was so pleased and waggy when he finished to was truly lovey to see.

Good luck to Anne and Ted in their agility career x
